As a landmark revitalizing element for Salem's downtown, this public/private co-development of a conference center and hotel occupying an entire city block creates a dramatic presence in the community, with an open, inviting character suitable for multiple uses.

Program and Site
The combined development includes 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting rooms and a 12,000 square-foot ballroom/exhibit area, a 200-room hotel and restaurant, and 300 stalls of underground shared parking. The site was selected to capitalize on existing infrastructure, public transportation, and circulation systems.

In addition to urban-scale windows that allow the lighting design and energy of conference events to activate the street, the project promotes the pedestrian-friendly environment of downtown Salem by incorporating a block-long indoor public gallery.

The conference center throughout employs natural ventilation of public lobby and circulation spaces and deep roof overhangs and window sun control elements to minimize solar heat gain.
