The University of Iowa Voxman Music Building is halfway through construction, with an estimated completion date of June 2016. The new, 184,000 SF facility is situated at a central intersection in downtown Iowa City. Program spaces include a 700 seat concert hall, a 200 seat recital hall, an organ performance hall, a music library, rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, classrooms, and studio offices. The 700-seat concert hall, the project’s prime performance venue, is front-and-center within the 6-floor architectural composition. The hall employs a suspended theatroacoustic ceiling system that organizes the complex technical requirements into venue-defining architectural expression, designed and coordinated in close collaboration with a diverse team of specialized design consultants, fabricators and builders.
