The 618 John Street building is a contemporary representation of the new ways to think about office design. Located in the shadow of the Space Needle, 618 John is a step towards welcoming, flexible, and healthier office buildings that uplift its users and the surrounding community. Built to foster connections, 618 John offers flexible workspaces alongside a robust ecosystem of socialization areas and amenities. From the spacious public plazas to the large terraces on the upper floors, the building features a series of outdoor social gathering areas that encourage community interconnectedness.
The building’s design reflects its natural and urban context within Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. Conceptually, 618 John was designed to resemble a rocky alpine mountaintop surrounded by glass block clouds. The building’s glass-enclosed volumes were carefully designed to echo the surrounding sky, giving the exterior a dynamic, surprising appearance that shifts throughout the day and throughout the year. The “clouds” are connected by recessed spaces that house interior social areas and lead to outdoor terraces on the sixth and seventh floors. As one of the newest buildings situated in a neighborhood in transition, 618 John will establish a precedent for design that strengthens social connections amongst its users and the larger Seattle community.
