Seattle Asian Art Museum Groundbreaking

03.16.18

The Seattle Asian Art Museum’s historic groundbreaking ceremony on March 13 launched the $54 million renovation and expansion of its iconic 1933 Art Deco home in Volunteer Park, a popular urban destination. Designed by LMN Architects, the project will add 13,900 square feet, including a glass-enclosed lobby, new gallery and freight elevator, while updating the HVAC system to protect sensitive artwork, and improving accessibility. The architectural approach parallels curatorial goals to create relevance and meaning between the past and the present, strengthening community connections in the park both from the outside in and the inside out. The renewed building is expected to reopen in fall 2019.
