Part of a 72-acre modernization development for a technology campus in Redmond, Washington, the project encompasses four new workplace buildings. One of four villages on this new, pedestrian-oriented campus, the buildings are designed around the concept of “weave,” knitting together a tapestry of experiences from the workspaces to cross-campus amenities and the natural environment beyond.

In each of the five-story buildings, stacked H- and C-shaped volumes interlock around a central multi-story space connecting all levels via a feature stair, emphasizing the importance of health, movement, and easy access to a range of amenities. The change in massing also yields opportunities for landscaped raised terraces and easy access to nature. The project is on track to meet LEED Platinum, ILFI Zero Carbon, and Salmon Safe certifications.

Emphasizing the importance of health, movement, and easy access to a range of amenities, each building’s multi-story space contains a feature stair, encouraging movement and casual encounters. In both design and function, these vertically connected spaces are conceptualized as looms, expressed through architectural screens spanning multiple floors.

Four iconic pavilion-like mass timber parking portals with integrated landscape and environmental graphics provide additional access points to the campus. These vertical connections bring daylight below ground, and in turn provide a biophilic experience for those arriving by car.
