LMN is pleased to announce that Kjell Anderson, AIA, has received the 2016 Young Architect Award from the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This award is given to individuals licensed fewer than 10 years who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career. “Kjell’s engagement with the community and commitment to sustainable design exemplify the future of architecture,” notes Sam Miller, AIA, Partner at LMN. “He has already made important contributions to our profession and to the work of LMN.”

Anderson is an architect, author, and Sustainability Coordinator at LMN Architects. Anderson represented Seattle as the AIA Washington Council Political Director from 2011-2014, and co-chaired the AIA National Energy Education Working Group in 2014-2015. He is currently serving as an inaugural member of the AIA National Energy Leadership Group, tasked with broadly defining AIA’s energy goals and priorities. Anderson has spoken at the AIA National Convention, Greenbuild, and the AIA+2030 Online Series, as well as creating a five-part online series on Building Simulation with BuildingGreen.com. His experiences creating and overseeing a firm-wide initiative to have architects perform energy simulations on all new projects inspired him to write a book, Design Energy Simulation for Architects (Routledge Press, 2014). At LMN, he is currently leading the sustainability efforts on many projects, as well as working on a new science building at Eastern Washington University. He recently served as a Project Architect for the Eighth & Howell mixed-use development in Seattle and as a design team member on eight future stations for Sound Transit East Link. Anderson is a graduate of Washington State University and holds cSBA and LEED AP certifications.
