We are voracious learners who see every project as an opportunity to innovate. Research, curiosity, and dialogue are central to our culture, and our single blended studio is designed to foster this cross-disciplinary spirit.

We are approximately 130 design professionals representing a diversity of expertise, led by ten partners. On every project, we strive to match aspirational, future-focused vision with technical rigor and skilled project delivery to create unique expressions of place.

We acknowledge that our office sits on the ancestral lands of various nations of Coast Salish peoples, most specifically the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Duwamish, Puyallup, Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations. As a multi-disciplinary studio that values building sustainable and equitable communities, we honor and respect the land, the water, and its people.

Studio Curiosity
Curiosity

Curiosity shapes the spaces we design and how we approach our work. For us, exploration and experimentation are key ingredients to addressing the pressing issues of our time. We are constantly pursuing new approaches and lines of thinking in design, sustainability, technology, and culture. Balancing creative exploration with pragmatics, we’re always pushing to answer project needs in more imaginative, efficient ways.

Studio Collaboration
Collaboration

We believe dialogue is at the heart of collaboration and have a passion for connecting through design. We develop close partnerships with project partners and consultants and foster a single-studio environment that is energized by the cross-pollination of ideas. Internally, our studio fosters knowledge-sharing and conversation both informally and formally through forums, visiting speakers, workshops, project reviews, and our weekly LMN Spotlight! where LMNers present their personal projects.

Studio Involvement
Community

Since its founding, our practice has been committed to the advancement of our community, the profession, and the world. We are dedicated to crafting a more equitable and resilient future through our leadership in regional, national, and global forums on design, planning, sustainability, technology, and mentorship. Over our history, the firm has been instrumental in responding to environmental stewardship issues and urban planning efforts in our founding city, and beyond.

History

LMN’s founders George Loschky, Judsen Marquardt, and John Nesholm believed that design should serve people first. Founded in 1979, the firm was established around a collaborative design approach, building community through civic projects. The project types and program uses have evolved over the years, but our commitment to advancing the social experience of the public realm continues to guide our work.
