LMN Strengthens Leadership with Promotion of Four New Associate Partners

Seattle, Washington – March 23, 2026 – LMN is proud to announce the elevation of Leonardo da Costa, Jennifer DuHamel, Mark Nicol, and Robert Smith to Associate Partner. These appointments reflect LMN’s ongoing commitment to design excellence, experimentation, cross-disciplinary research, skilled project delivery, and a resilient architectural practice.

Leonardo da Costa has more than 25 years of experience, with the past 15 years focused on LMN’s convention center projects. He has played a key role in shaping major projects such as the Seattle Convention Center Summit Building, the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland and Civic Core, and the ongoing Austin Convention Center Redevelopment. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Leo’s international perspective and collaborative approach have made him a trusted leader on complex projects, consistently delivering value for communities and clients. Leo is a frequent speaker and lecturer on the future of convention centers, large civic venues, and the dynamic role they play within the life of our cities.

Jennifer DuHamel brings 21 years of architectural experience and programming expertise to a range of project types including higher education, zoos, and aquariums. She excels at translating user insights into innovative design, shaping complex projects such as the Computing and Data Science Building at Stanford University, the Center for Energy Innovation at the University of Missouri, the Undergraduate Academic Building at UC Berkeley, the Forest Trailhead at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, and a major new aquarium facility in the Midwest. Jenn’s approach connects people to each other, solves immediate needs, and anticipates future changes.

Mark Nicol is a designer with 17 years of experience spanning private mixed-use development and public higher education projects. He focuses on advancing design through emerging tools, fabrication, and evolving delivery models. Mark brings a collaborative leadership approach to each project, guiding teams through deliberate engagement to craft thoughtful and innovative solutions. His experience includes 1001 Office Towers in Bellevue, Washington; the Computer Design, Research, and Learning Center at the University of Illinois Chicago; and Steven S. Wymer Hall for the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, delivered through a public-private partnership. He has also served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, teaching at the intersection of design, technology, and computational methods.

Robert Smith has 25 years of national and international experience. As one of LMN’s leaders in high-performance buildings and integrated project delivery, Robert has led projects for corporate headquarters, commercial developments, convention centers, and higher education. Robert has also worked closely with top business schools on pre-design metrics, visioning, programming, design, delivery, and post-occupation evaluations for transformative, social learning environments. His recent experience includes the Undergraduate Academic Building at UC Berkeley, Founders Hall for the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, and the Edward J. Minskoff Pavilion for Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business.

As Associate Partners, Leonardo, Jennifer, Mark, and Robert will continue to foster cross- disciplinary collaboration and mentorship, strengthen growth opportunities, and advance LMN’s mission across all aspects of the practice.
