Research & Education Complex Master Plan
Washington State University
WSU’s interdisciplinary research complex is envisioned to become an internationally-recognized facility that promotes scientific collaborations and enhances overall economic development throughout the region.
The master plan defines development parameters and design guidelines for six research buildings that will encompass a wide range of programs, such as molecular biology, agriculture and veterinary medicine sciences. The complete build-out will total approximately 650,000 square feet. Alternating “L-shaped” buildings are positioned as links in a chain, forming a circulation and service spine to provide shared use of core lab support facilities, as well as cultivate interaction between research groups.
The plan responds to the site’s natural topography, placing buildings in an optimal orientation to maximize daylight, and creating a series of interconnected courtyards similar in scale and character to other successful open spaces on campus.
