Precinct Plan
City College of San Francisco
The master plan for the City College of San Francisco west campus precinct is designed to create synergy between the new west and existing east campus.
A public street divides the new campus precinct from the existing campus. The design challenge was to create a coherent campus experience that knitted the two portions together. A crescent-shaped grass commons in front of the new LMN-designed Performing Arts Center mirrors the existing east commons, uniting the two parts of the campus and creating a welcoming entry.
The theatrically clad fly tower of the Performing Arts Center will align with the dome of the Science Hall on the eastern hill opposite of the Center, visually pairing the campus’ most iconic buildings representing the arts and sciences. Sustainability informed the planning, with the site’s natural topography restored by filling in much of the large concrete reservoir previously used for parking.
