Olympic Hall
South Seattle Community College
Through a layered composition of materiality, structure and light, the building transforms a previously weak campus edge with a gateway presence and reinforces definition of the campus core.
The “L-shaped” configuration provides a clear circulation pattern and organization of program components while capturing “found” spaces to create critically needed opportunities for students to linger and study between classes.
The exterior expression is an integrated system of light and dark metal panels, as well as curtain wall and sun control devices in response to program functions, campus relationships and environmental influences. The exposed steel structure is painted red, enlivening interior public spaces and reinforcing the overall architectural composition.
The 150-seat lecture hall is punctuated by the asymmetrical volume of the main entrance lobby, which is clad in blue stucco.
