Integration of experience and expression are embodied in the juxtaposition of art and science programs. Interplay of structure, materiality and light embellish both the spirit and functionality of interdisciplinary learning while maintaining individual program identities.

Organized around a “double wide” circulation system to maximize assignable area efficiency, science labs for chemistry, physics, geology and engineering form an inner program block, while studio-art classrooms for drawing, painting and ceramics make up the building's perimeter. Multi-directional views extend through an interconnected sequence of common interior spaces, with natural light introduced in both the center and perimeter.

The building massing and landscape define an entry forecourt and new gathering area that links with the campus’s central pedestrian mall. Adjacent art studios interweave the ongoing activities of the building and display of work as part of the continuously changing nature of this unique public space.
